Yaël Lotem is an Israeli-born documentary director and cinematographer whose work explores the boundaries between reality and fiction, history and memory.
Her award-winning film Death and the Maiden (2014) about the turbulent life-story of Jewish-German artist charlotte Salomon premiered at DOC NYC, DokFest Munich and DocAviv, and aired on RBB in Germany. After several years of working in Research & Development in leading production companies in Israel, her passion for storytelling led her to move to London to pursue an MA in Directing Documentary at the National Film and Television School (NFTS). There, she directed The Forest (2018) and Miu (2019) a Drama-Doc, shortlisted for the Grierson Awards.
Currently, Yaël is based in Tel Aviv and developing two new projects: Her debut feature Kenan with the support of NFCT and Rabinovich Film Fund, and Raiding Grandma, a documentary web-series commissioned by 'KAN Digital', the Israeli Public Broadcaster digital network, and Israel's most popular Youtube channel.
